The Nokia 5610 XpressMusic is a handset for the music lovers as the name suggests, and it comes in the slider form factor. The music-centric device comes with a built-in dedicated audio chip and the manufacturer is promising up to 22 hours of non-stop playback. The Nokia 5610 is based on the Nokia S40 platform and sports a 3.2 megapixel camera with 2-step shutter key and LED flash. The 2.2" 16M TFT display supports QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels). The integrated memory is only 20MB but it is expandable through the microSD card slot (a 512MB or 1GB card included in the retail package). The connectivity capabilities include a microUSB port and stereo Bluetooth (A2DP). There is also a variety of choices when it comes to network connectivity - GPRS, EDGE and UMTS are supported. Nokia 5610 XpressMusic is going to work well with all four GSM bands and two UMTS ones (850/2100 Mhz). A dedicated American version will also have dual-band UMTS support (850/1900 MHz).

Nokia brought joy to all fans of the high-end Nokia N95 by announcing the exciting Nokia N95 8GB. The Nokia N95 8GB edition comes dressed in black and has undergone several changes. The main one of course is the thrilling memory capacity of 8GB. It is technically 8.1GB as there are also 100MB of system memory for messages, ringing tones etc. The screen has also grown up from the 2.6" of the original to 2.8" in the new edition. The display still supports QVGA resolution and can show up to 16M colors. Nokia N95 8GB is powered by 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery as opposed to the rather modest 950 mAh in the original Nokia N95 - hopefully the new battery will be able to deal better with the phone’s energy needs. The weak battery was probably the most criticized feature of the original N95 model. The higher capacity battery on the other side has resulted in removing the lens cover. Luckily, the GPS is still present, regardless of the expectations that it will be sacrificed in order to make room for the extra memory. Instead the memory card slot is removed so transferring data through card-reader is no longer an option. Finally, another significant change in the smartphone's hardware has been made - the RAM is now double the size of the orginal to improve user experience with the browser or with multiple applications running in the background.

The N81 greatly reduces the size when compared to the N80 and now is targeted to the music-fans, packing control keys, stereo speakers and 8GB of internal memory to store tracks on.
Targeted to music, it has 2-megapixel camera instead of improving the 3-megapixel unit of the N80. The top now houses 3.5mm stereo jack for connecting of standard stereo headphones, as it is with the N95 but the bottom has microUSB instead of miniUSB. Strangely, it also has standard Nokia Charging port which must be replaced by the microUSB as it is with the 8600 Luna for example. We expect an official announcement of the Nokia N81 to follow soon.

The company will launch two models. The first is the DZ-BD7H which sports a Blu-ray drive and a 30GB hard disk drive and can record up to record roughly four hours of 1920 x 1080 full high-def video, or 8 hours 1440x1080 high-def video.
The second model is the DZ-BD70, a non HDD version that can record a measly one hour of 1920 x 1080 video or two hours of 1440x1080 video on an 8cm BD disc. It might not sound like a lot on the second camera but those discs can still store five times more than a blank 8cm DVD.

Samsung's follow ups to the highly regarded BD-P1200 are here, and they are upgraded with audio format support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD. Everyone else looks pretty much the same, including this magic list: 24 frame support, HDMI 1.3, and ethernet. Except the 1400 doesn't have that mind-blowing HQV video processor at $549 while the 2400 has it at $599 ($599 is the same price as the 1200, btw.) This slight improvement is ok, considering how great the previous model's reviews and features were. Don't mess with a good thing, just tweak it. Due in Sept/Oct respectively. Not necessarily worth waiting for over the current model, IMHO, if you have to buy now.

PC World is aiming to take robots into the mainstream by announcing a series of dedicated RoboShops, within some of its retail outlets.
Robots are the next big thing apparently, and it feels that there’s some serious dosh to be made from taking the types of things we’ve been covering for years to Joe Public. It looks like those Aibo and Bj mutts are in for some competition.
Among the first products will be the Star Wars-themed home cinema on wheels, the R2-D2 droid. We covered this in detail at this year’s CES and you can see extra shots of this baby, including the cool [yet enormous] Millennium Falcon remote control.

There’ll also be Spykee [pictured], from Meccano, which does exactly as it says on the tin. This is essentially a £200 super-grass on wheels, allowing you to control it remotely by Wi-Fi from your laptop or PC.

Still no press releases or photos available in Sony Ericsson’s websites, but along with the W810 announcement they emailed to UCSE, they presented these couple of cool speaker sets, one more portable-ish, one more desktop-ish, to go with the known MDS-70 (which, numbering-wise, should sound better?). The MPS-60 is really really small and pocketable, at 30x55x42 mm, while the MDS-60 measures 54x120x200 mm. They will be available in the first quarter of 2006 at unknown price and in colors Silver, White and Orange.

How long have we been dreaming about this? It doesn’t matter anymore. It’s for real, Sony Ericsson has finally made a Bluetooth Stereo Headset in the shape of a couple in-ear headphones and a main unit with a display and keys for volume, track skipping and call answering, all weighing just 27 grams. Yes, there’s still some wires involved, but the main unit hangs lightly around the neck and the phone is in the pocket with no strings atached. The sound quality promises to be as outstanding as the HPM-70, and the battery life is not awful bad at up to 6 hours talk time or playback time, and 300 hours standby. Now here’s something interesting, if you check the compatibility list in its Official Page, isn’t every single Bluetooth phone since the S700 listed? Half the phones there didn’t support the A2D profile for stereo Bluetooth music streaming, did they? UPDATE: They corrected the list, now only the ones with A2DP (P990, M600 and W950 to date) are supported. The price is yet to be announced, but I really don’t care; when it comes out in Q2, I’m getting it no matter what.
